Rory’s Story Cubes® MAX
Our multi-award winning Rory’s Story Cubes® is incredibly popular with parents and educational professionals working with children and adults to develop language and communication skills, confidence and self-expression.
A ‘small-ish’ problem
When we designed the original Rory’s Story Cubes®, we made them compact enough to fit in a bag or pocket. This was so that your set of Rory’s Story Cubes® would always be to hand when needed. Since launching in 2009, we have been regularly asked by parents and professionals working in the area of special needs, if we would consider making a version of Rory’s Story Cubes® using bigger dice. The main reasons why they want this larger set are:
- Supporting reduced motor skills. For some players with reduced motor skills it is difficult to pick up small objects.
- Supporting reduced vision acuity. Some players find small images difficult to read.
- Avoiding accidental choking hazards. We have learned that for some players it is important that the dice are made bigger to avoid choking.
- Group Training. Trainers and facilitators working in larger groups would also like bigger cubes to aid group storytelling.
It is important to us that Rory’s Story Cubes can be enjoyed by as many people as possible. One of the most rewarding things for us is hearing feedback from parents and teachers who tell us how Rory’s Story Cubes is allowing self-expression among children and adults who would normally find it difficult to do so. Rory’s Story Cubes® are seen as a great leveler, respecting everyone’s personal interpretation of the icons – there is no wrong answer.
Rory’s Story Cubes®: MAX
In response to all these requests, we have decided to design a large set of Rory’s Story Cubes. We are calling these Rory’s Story Cubes®: MAX. The dice will be 30mm and have the same high quality design values and de-embossed images as the portable set. We will be using acrylic instead of urea, to keep the weight of each dice to a manageable level.
The expected RRP is £25. This is due mainly to higher moulding, tooling and material costs. We think this price offers great value for money, but we would like to hear from you. Before we invest our effort and money, we would really like to get an idea from YOU how much support there REALLY is for a product like Rory’s Story Cubes®: MAX.

If you plan to buy Rory’s Story Cubes®: MAX when they are ready, please give us your name and email address. Please also add a comment with reasons why we should produce this and any other suggestions.

Waiting on the MAX cubes! Perfect for working with younger children. Also would work well for group projects.
Would love to buy the Max Cubes. Using all sets of the classic cubes in facilitated workshop. The larger size would make it easier for the participants to see them from the other end of the table.
[...] company are considering releasing a larger version of their Story Cubes which would be great for kids with visual or motor [...]
It´s a great idea to make a bigger dices.
But, is it 30mm big enough?
What about a 100mm dice set for use with elderly people with cognitive problems?
Congratulations for the project!
Please let me know when the larger cubes are available. Thanks.
yes please. Larger version much better as a teaching resource for lower ability student where the larger images the better.
I would like them for professional training. I work in a corporate environment and would like to have a larger size.
Thanks.
As a visually impaired school librarian, the concept of a larger version of Rory’s story cubles strongly appeals. At present I have to trust the pupils to tell me what the image is. Children can be very cruel
£25 is steeper than I would be able to pay however. I bought the cubes we use out of my own (very meagre) salary, as my budget would not stretch to it, and I had to have them. I think they are a brilliant idea. I also bought some for my great-nephew, and can’t wait to play with them with him.
Given some of our pupils, a large foam set would be an useful development at the right price. Better than large solid ones. The less ammunition they have, the better.
Clear contrast of ink on foam would be appreciated too
Hope this helps, keep up the inspiring work

Let me know if the larger size becomes available. Sounds like a great game, but I am concerned that the small pictures will be hard to see. That would take the fun out of the game. I don’t play games with small print or pictures. Some vision challenges. Can’t translate the price into dollars, but if they were a little more expensive, I would buy them.
I am a school based speech language specialist. I work with a variety of age ranges and ability levels. The larger cubes would be perfect.
Having the cubes made larger would enable those not only with sight problems but also motor skills to be able to play with and use Rory’s story Cubes. It would be an awesome teaching aide and rehabilitation aide for those that have had start over again due to an illness like stroke, or an accident. The application of this product is only limited by the user of this product.
Duże kostki są lepsze dla mojego dziecka.
I wish to buy Rorys Story Cubes MAX
please let me know how I can buy one set to use with adults in a training situation
Thanks
I use Story cubes in my classroom to encourage students to write stories. I teach second grade and right now we only use three cubes at a time. The reason being that the first cube I roll is the beginning, the next the middle of the story, and the third cube is the ending. It really gets the kids thinking and they love them!! The great thing about bigger cubes would be everyone would be able to see the pictures much better! Great idea!
These would be great for family game night -so that they’d be easier to read from everyone at the table! Also: This size is less likely to be batted under the refrigerator by the cat. ;D
I would like the larger cubes but I would also like some of the pictures to be clearer/simpler. I use them with my 4 year old grandchildren and they find some of the pictures difficult to understand.
I too think £25 is very expensive.
Thanks

As a special needs teacher of secondary children (11-16) with learning difficulties I really hope you produce these larger dice. I have only recently got into the cubes, but I love them, and so do the students.
Cheers Christian Lewis
I will use the dice in larger group setting. It will be easier for more people to see what’s on the dice if they are larger.
I’d like to use the larger story cubes with a class of children.
