What do the icons mean?

You have asked for an official list of what the symbols are. We reluctantly give out this information, as the game really is about challenging everyone to interpret them for him/herself. The brain is forced to fire neurons to make connections between the images and therefore the creativity “muscle” is exercised. We want to emphasize that each of these images has multiple meanings.

For example, the credit card could also be a letter or an ID card, the speech bubble a balloon etc. The building has been a cheese-grater or (upsidedown) a square owl!

The icons will become different things in different stories too, and become more metaphorical with practice. For example the tortoise represents being slow, the airplane a journey etc.

You will also refer back to the stories you have created. One group told a story about ‘The Big Foot, Little Toe Detective Agency’ using the footprint icon. Now every time this icon comes up, the Agency solves another mystery.

The L sign has caused confusion in the USA. This is a Learner sign. In Europe it is used on cars before a driver passes the driving test. It can also be a scrabble tile, a ‘Loser’ sign, a setsquare, an arrow etc.
